About the role 

The role of HR Advisor at the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ is a varied and interesting one working with a range of stakeholders based in Faculties and Professional Services Departments. You will work closely with the matrix team and HR Business Partners in order to deliver a timely and legally compliant service as well as working with our colleagues in Reward, Workforce Development, Culture and Inclusion and Safety, Health and Wellbeing. 

The aim of the role is to enable excellent people management practice and build the capability of individuals, teams and departments to meet the University’s and the department’s objectives. The role will support designated business areas, developing effective working relationships with key stakeholders, whilst working for and alongside HR Business Partners.

The HR Advisor will support the delivery of the HR Strategy and work in such a way that supports pace, innovation and customer service in HR service delivery. 

About you 

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent
  • Effective knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice and its practical application appropriate to a generalist advisor role
  • Proven experience of delivering outcome- and customer-focused HR advice and guidance
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Able to advise, support and coach managers to manage employee relations issues effectively.

About the role

The University’s Hospitality Department provides a wide range of catering services to students, staff, and external visitors throughout the academic year and summer months. We operate a number of outlets offering diverse, high-quality food and drink options.

We’re looking for hardworking, reliable Commis Chefs to join our team. You’ll support our chefs in producing high-quality dishes while maintaining excellent hygiene, cleanliness, and health and safety standards.

This is a 36.5-hour-per-week role, working 5 days out of 7. Shifts are mainly daytime during term time, with some evening work required during the summer. The position is contracted for 42 weeks per year, with typical non-working weeks at Christmas, Easter, and August.

About you

You’ll have a real passion for cooking great food and experience working as a junior chef. An NVQ in Food Preparation would be an advantage. You should thrive in a busy kitchen environment, show a positive attitude, and be a strong team player who builds effective working relationships with colleagues.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • able to work in a team, and independently, being proactive and able to use initiative

Experience in higher education administration, preferably with experience of admissions, is desirable but we also welcome applications from those with other administrative backgrounds.

This is a full-time role, working 36.5 hours per week for a fixed-term period until August 2026 to cover parental leave.

You are able to work on a hybrid basis but will be expected to be in-person on-campus 2 days a week, every Tuesday or Wednesday.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to be the leader of a dynamic team of Health and Fitness Coaches, Personal Trainers and Group Exercise instructors operating in our recently refurbished gym. We are looking for a Research Associate to play a key role in the design and development of digital hydraulic fluid power technologies and control systems. The role is funded by the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, entitled "Digital Hydraulic Fluid Power Technologies for Decarbonising Off-road Vehicles", in collaboration with industrial partners. 

Hydraulic fluid power offers significant advantages, including high power density, compact size, lightweight design, fast responsiveness, and effective controllability. This project focuses on designing, developing, and prototyping digital hydraulic technologies and control systems to improve energy efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and lower CO2 emissions in off-road vehicles. Additionally, it presents opportunities for interdisciplinary research on efficient actuation mechanisms.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality research on the topic, including:

  • Design and modelling of digital hydraulic fluid power technologies
  • Prototyping, validating and evaluating digital hydraulic converters.
  • Digital fluid power system integration onto an off-road vehicle and experimental validations.
  • Life-cycle assessment of the digital hydraulic technology

This role will suit you if you 

  • Hold a PhD degree in a subject area of direct relevance to the project.
  • Have previous experience in one or more of the following: modelling, design, control or prototyping of fluid power components and systems.
  • Have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Are self-motivated and have excellent communication skills.

You will be responsible for planning and performing research activities and will be expected to take an active role in supporting PhD and undergraduate research students within the laboratory. You should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively as part of a team and present your work to a range of audiences.

We are seeking a proactive, self-motivated and collegiate Lecturer in Pharmaceutics to assist in the delivery of our undergraduate pharmacy, pharmacology and bioscience courses. Our Department and University have achieved an excellent reputation for teaching, and we are seeking a high-quality candidate to further enhance the academic and employability skills of our students.

This role will involve small group teaching, lecturing, delivery of practical classes and supporting students on undergraduate/postgraduate courses as well as administrative, assessment and exam duties as required. This post will support learning and teaching in the subject area of pharmaceutics.

The Department of Life Sciences at the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ has over 90 academic staff across a broad range of disciplines including, biochemistry, cell & developmental biology, evolution, genetics, immunology microbiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy and structural biology. The vast majority of research within the merged departments was rated as 4* or 3* in the last (REF2021) assessment.

Job purpose:

  • To plan and deliver taught programmes of education and support student learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level (as appropriate). This will include preparation of teaching material, lectures, tutorials, laboratory classes assessment and marking of coursework.
  • To play a role in developing the teaching culture and student experience of the University.
  • To provide teaching-related management and administrative duties.

Whilst it is expected that teaching will be informed by research/professional expertise, there is no research component to this role.

DSPS is committed to being interdisciplinary, progressive, and impactful in both research and teaching. Its academic staff come from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds including economics, sociology, politics, anthropology, geography, development studies, social and public policy, social work, and criminology. 

The Dept is home to the Centre for Development Studies, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025.

You will be expected to conduct original, rigorous research in Social Work, and help build our already strong community of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers. 

Core teaching will contribute to BSc Social Work and Applied Social Studies and MRes Social Work.

You will already have some teaching experience. We will consider specialisms in any sub-field of social work but are particularly keen to strengthen the department’s interests in mental health. A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding inorganic/organometallic chemist to undertake research in the field of copper(I) catalysis.

This is following the award of an EPSRC New Investigator Award to the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ entitled "Carbon Dioxide Activation and Valorisation at Copper-Phosphorus Bonds". You will work in the Liptrot group, whose interest span main group chemistry, copper(I) catalysis and synthesis for materials science. The project will focus on the generation and exploitation of copper(I) complexes in catalytic reactions. The role is available from November 2025 to February 2027, and has funding available to support training and travel opportunities.

About you

We are seeking an exceptional postdoctoral candidates to perform research in the general area of synthetic and mechanistic main group and group 11 chemistry. We are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in following up our recent report of a compound containing a copper-magnesium bond (R. A. Jackson, N. J. Evans, D. J. Babula, T. M. Horsley Downie, R. S. C. Charman, S. E. Neale, M. F. Mahon, D. J. Liptrot; Nucleophilicity at copper(-I) in a compound with a Cu–Mg bond; .).

The successful candidate will be expected to synthesise a range of copper(I)-main group complexes, perform mechanistic analyses, draft papers and supervise Postgraduate and Masters project students. All new compounds will be analysed by a combination of multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis and mass spectrometry.

Completion of a PhD in a relevant area, and previous experience in the synthesis and characterisation of highly air- and moisture-sensitive organometallics is essential. A record of accomplishment of peer-reviewed publications is desirable.

This is a hugely varied and interesting role which encompasses a wide range of different tasks from supporting senior members of the Faculty staff in the execution of their duties including diary management and meeting organisation, servicing a number of Faculty committees, collating data, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and working on a variety of projects simultaneously in a busy working environment.

About you

To make a success of this post you will be a good team player who also enjoys working independently and taking initiative. You will have excellent administrative abilities and problem-solving skills, including experience of supporting committees and capacity to manage a varied workload whilst meeting strict deadlines. You will be highly organised, confident dealing with data, with great attention to detail. You will have excellent spoken and written English with the ability to write clearly and concisely, and will be proficient in using IT.

You will be able to use your knowledge and initiative to manage and prioritise effectively the requirements of the role. Effective and professional liaison with internal and external contacts is an integral part of the role and so a need for tact and discretion and an ability to maintain confidentiality are essential.

Previous experience within the HE sector is desirable but not essential. Skills in the use of University specific software (Moodle, SAMIS, Agresso and Business Objects) will be an added advantage. About the role

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the planning, creation and delivery of digital content and media to support the Faculty of Science’s wide-ranging marketing and research activities. Using your knowledge of content and user design experience, you'll work closely with colleagues in the Faculty and across the University to create appropriate content that meets specific user needs. You'll continually review and optimise content to improve performance, using the University's bespoke publishing platform, built and developed in-house. You’ll also have the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Marketing and our digital agency, to manage the operational delivery of the digital marketing campaigns.

You'll have a proven track record of:

  • Writing for the web with the ability to produce appropriate content and advise Faculty colleagues on best practice techniques.
  • Knowledge of sourcing and/or creating other types of content (e.g. images, video, audio, animation) and using these to deliver effective content and campaigns.
  • Developing and managing content across multiple digital platforms using a CMS.
  • An understanding of web usability and inclusive design requirements.
  • Implementing web tracking tools and creating dashboards to monitor user activity across our website.  Use insights from this data to inform and optimise digital marketing activity.

You must be able to communicate effectively and confidently to develop good working relationships. You should have excellent organisational skills, be a good team player and be able to successfully manage your workload, as well as stakeholder expectations.

The DClinPsy is a three-year, full-time professional doctorate where trainees split their time between university study and supervised placements in NHS mental health settings. You'll be part of a dedicated team, working alongside two other Programme Administrators and a Programme Manager, as well as colleagues across the Doctoral College.

About the role

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • supporting the full admissions cycle, from screening applications through to shortlisting, interviews, and final offers.
  • maintaining systems to meet quality assurance standards.
  • acting as a first point of contact for applicants and trainees, maintaining accurate records in line with University and NHS requirements.
  • ensuring compliance with Data Protection and Freedom of Information regulations.
  • assisting with events such as inductions and Q&A sessions.
  • servicing programme committees and meetings (including minute-taking) on occasions.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • has experience in an administrative support role (ideally in higher education or student administration but this isn't essential).
  • brings excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • communicates confidently and professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders (eg colleagues, non-specialists, senior managers, external stakeholders and, if you have an HE background, applicants, staff, and students).
  • has strong IT skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, and a willingness to learn University systems.
  • (and if you have HE experience…) ideally has experience with platforms such as Moodle, SAMIS/SITS, or Business Objects (desirable but not essential).

  • and the Push Start Track used by the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton squads 

This role include grounds maintenance, including planning and implementing – plant nutrition and soil improvement programmes, integrated pest management, mowing regimes, aeration, irrigation, and renovation operations.

In addition, the role will ensure that the provision of landscaping services is done in line with our landscape environmental management plan (LEMP), considering the environmental and community impact of all works carried out.

About you

You will need:

  • NVQ, GMA or City and Guilds Level 2 in groundsmanship (Level 3 would be beneficial)
  • Valid Category B Driving License 
  • PA1/6 Spraying Licence (or willing to work towards in first 2 years)

We are seeking an Engagement Analytics Manager to lead the implementation and development of our new student engagement analytics system. This is a pivotal role that sits at the intersection of student support, data insight, and institutional change.

About the role

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence how the University supports its students, using technology and data to make a meaningful impact on their academic journey and wellbeing.

Key highlights of the role:

  • Lead the rollout and optimisation of a university-wide engagement analytics system, becoming the expert user and champion for its adoption as well as providing line management to the Engagement Analytics Systems Administrator.
  • Shape policy and practice around student engagement and wellbeing, using data to inform proactive support strategies.
  • Collaborate across departments to train staff, build understanding, and embed the system into everyday operations.
  • Analyse trends and generate insights to improve student outcomes and drive continuous service improvement.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about using data to improve student outcomes and who thrives in collaborative, change-focused environments. You’ll bring a mix of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a student-centred approach to help shape how we support engagement and wellbeing across the University.

You will have:

  • a degree-level qualification or equivalent experience, demonstrating your ability to work at a strategic and analytical level.
  • experience managing or using engagement monitoring systems, ideally within an education or student support context.

About the role

In this role, you will be an integral part of a team investigating how young people are prepared to become citizens in societies worldwide. 

You will contribute to meaningful research that influences educational policy and practice across more than 25 countries.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting advanced quantitative analysis on international large-scale datasets such as ICCS, using statistical techniques such as Item Response Theory (IRT) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with software including R, Mplus, and Python.
  • Contributing to academic publications, from literature reviews and developing research instruments to drafting content for technical reports and peer-reviewed papers.
  • Supporting project coordination for this large-scale international study, which includes liaising with collaborators and assisting with the organisation of expert meetings and workshops.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher to develop specialist skills in large-scale data analysis and contribute to high-profile international publications.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be passionate about contributing to large-scale research in civic and citizenship education and will enjoy working collaboratively within a diverse international team.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant subject (e.g., Education, Psychology, Social Sciences, Statistics), a master's level qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A strong foundation in quantitative research methods and skills in advanced statistical analysis such as Item Response Theory (IRT) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM).
  • Practical experience analysing international large-scale assessments with statistical software packages such as R, Mplus, Python, or similar.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring, recording and reporting the progress of trade staff and contractors working on site as part of the University’s project and Engineering team. 
  • Quality Control inspections ensuring high workmanship and quality is achieved.
  • Working with the contractors and their team to establish standards to which the works must be executed and reporting to the contractors and Engineering staff upon the quality and execution of the works.
  • Attending site progress meetings and providing a short written and verbal report under a list of headings to be agreed with the Project Manager/Contract Administrator.
  • Being familiar with site drawings and carrying out regular site visits
  • Tracking, monitoring and logging snags/observations using the Contractor’s online reporting system of choice and ensuring that they are satisfactorily resolved and closed out.
  • Assisting in the monitoring of and reporting upon, the compliance of contractors working on site in relation to Health and Safety legislation and technical competence.

Essential for the role:

  • Significant experience in managing the quality of large- scale capital expenditure building projects
  • Extensive and varied experience in similar role(s)
  • An SVQ Level 3/HNC/Apprenticeship or equivalent in a construction-related subject
  • Valid CSCS card and relevant qualification / professional membership (such as ICWCI)
  • Significant experience of space management at a senior and strategic level in a complex organisation

Membership of the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate and/or MCIOB, and experience of working within the higher education sector are desirable, along with a formal health and safety qualification, and familiarity with AutoCAD reading & plotting.

Funded by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (), ICCS informs educational policy and practice worldwide.

We are seeking a Research Fellow to join this internationally recognised centre and contribute to research shaping global education systems.

This role focuses on developing and implementing the Grade 11 module of ICCS, examining civic learning among older adolescents, particularly in vocational education pathways. You will engage in international comparative research, applying advanced quantitative methods to analyse large-scale datasets and generate insights that influence policy globally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading international research: Conducting high-quality studies with a particular focus on how vocational education across Europe shapes young people’s civic knowledge, attitudes, and engagement.
  • Advanced data analysis: Applying methods such as IRT, SEM, and MG-CFA, using R, Python, or Mplus.
  • Global collaboration: Coordinating expert meetings and maintaining partnerships with international collaborators, governments, and academic institutions.
  • Research leadership: Developing conceptual frameworks, assessment instruments, and analytical strategies, supporting funding applications, and contributing to ISC’s research agenda.

About you

The Supergen Energy Networks Hub (SEN) is a £9m research project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).  The hub brings together collaborative teams from Industry, Academia, Government and Civil Society to carry out highly impactful, interdisciplinary research, to enable energy networks to become a driving force towards a rapid, safe and just transition to net zero.

The research Impact & Engagement Officer will work with the Research Projects and Programmes Manager to delivery impact and engagement activities for the EPSRC funded Supergen Energy Networks Impact Hub.

The post holder will advise and work alongside the Principal Investigators (PIs) that include the University’s Vice-Chancellor, and other academic and professional service colleagues.

SEN has a networks community of more than 750 individuals, which currently includes 36 active Academics and Researchers based across 7 Universities throughout the UK. A key aspect of this post is to liaise with over 50 Industry, Government and Policy partners, all at CEO and Director levels.

Duties Include

  • Support and advise on development and implementation of impact and engagement strategy
  • Identify additional funding opportunities
  • Disseminate research and deliver impact activities
  • Actively engage in forward planning ensuring alignment with the vision and ambition of the project

The role offers an exciting and flexible opportunity for a confident early-career researcher to both contribute to existing research lines within the group and to initiate new projects in collaboration with Prof Rogers. You will be able to make leading contributions in a variety of research directions, from building new interdisciplinary collaborations to publishing and disseminating results.

About the Networks and Collective Behaviour research group

The successful candidate will join an active research group focused on the development and application of mathematical methods to complex systems, with a particular emphasis on networks, stochastic processes and mathematical biology. Group members work on a variety of topics from ecology, evolution and epidemiology, through to animal and human behavioural dynamics. We develop and analyse mathematical models (both simulation and theoretical studies) and often work collaboration with experimental scientists. Mathematical techniques deployed include network theory, dynamical systems, stochastic processes and random matrix theory.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and conscientious researcher who would value the opportunity to begin new collaborations and begin to develop leadership of their own research programme. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and attributes:

  • A PhD in mathematics, theoretical physics, or a closely related discipline (or expected to be awarded shortly).
  • Strong background in applied mathematics and analytical techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Experience of interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Familiarity with numerical methods or programming (e.g. in MATLAB).

Funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) in partnership with the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC), the ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ P-ACE is one of funded across the UK. 

The aim is to improve connections between academic researchers and police forces, making it easier to identify and draw upon the best research evidence, science, and technologies to drive service improvement in policing. 

About the role

We are recruiting a Knowledge Exchange (KE) Facilitator to provide specialised KE support to ensure that our existing world-leading research and expertise at ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ is synthesised and shared with relevant policing partners. 

Given the fast-paced policing environment and tight timescales for input into policy issues, the KE facilitator will be instrumental in supporting the P-ACE objectives and bridging the gap to policy and practice. 

The KE Facilitator will work closely with the core leadership team of the P-ACE, while also developing strong working relationships with appropriate academic and professional staff from across the University (including at senior levels), our external policing and other stakeholder partners, and the other P-ACEs. 

The KE Facilitator will lead for engagement and bring the skills, knowledge, experience and attributes needed to deliver the P-ACE’s KE and communication strategy. 

The role will be busy, wide-ranging, challenging and exciting. 

It will include the day-to-day running of the P-ACE, engaging with external stakeholders, translating academic findings into accessible formats for policy makers and relevant stakeholders, working to develop placement opportunities, events management (where appropriate), supporting the development and maintenance of the P-ACE website and social media. 

A key part of the role will also be in facilitating the effective mobilisation of relevant expertise at ºÚÁÏÍø³Ô¹Ï±¬ÁÏ to proactively address new policing needs as they arise, supporting the leadership team and external steering group in the deployment of a flexible fund at speed. 

With the challenges and opportunities of establishing a new P-ACE, the successful applicant will be proactive in solving problems, confident working independently and using their judgement and creativity to investigate and resolve any new or non-standard problems, yet confident asking for help and feedback.

This role would suit either someone with a background in academic research and (ideally) experience of writing for non-academic audiences or with professional experience in knowledge-exchange and communications.

We are seeking an expert individual with project management and communication skills to lead our EPSRC UK-HyRES flagship programme, which is led by Professor Chris Brace. 

This role will have responsibility for ensuring that the Hub is able to deliver on its strive to identify, prioritise and deliver solutions to research challenges that must be overcome for widespread adoption of hydrogen and alternative liquid fuels (ALFs). 

The role will be based in a co-located space with other Hydrogen-related programmes, and will work alongside academic colleagues and other project staff, who will report to this position, to handle the delivery of the programme.

The ideal candidate will be thoughtful, collaborative and collegiate in their duties, which will include

  • Taking forward agreed project strategies effectively
  • Engaging with key internal and external stakeholders with enthusiasm
  • Have strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently
  • Using initiative to drive forward positive change

About you:

In addition to the research role, you will contribute to our range of highly rated undergraduate and postgraduate offerings. 

The Division’s teaching portfolio includes specialist MSc programmes in Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Business Analytics; Innovation and Technology Management; and Engineering and Business Management, as well as more general management undergraduate and MBA programmes. 

We expect the successful candidate to be able to teach in the areas of operations management, operations strategy, supply chain management, and/or project management. As we grow our portfolio of on-line delivery, we are also interested in candidates who have experience in designing and delivering via digital channels.
