We are seeking an experienced admissions manager, widening access or student support professional for this key management role within our Undergraduate Admissions Team.

Managing our Admissions Progression Team, you will lead on admissions work supporting applicants from under-represented groups, non-traditional academic backgrounds and with sensitive individual circumstances, including:

  • Play a lead role in the team's work to support our Access and Participation Plan, a key strategic commitment for the University
  • Managing a small team delivering contextual admissions and mitigating circumstances processes
  • Reviewing applicant cases involving complex circumstances, applying admissions principles to reach fair decisions for vulnerable students
  • Liaising with colleagues across the University to deliver seamless processes for applicants and tailored recruitment activities
  • Supporting the development of admissions policies, practices and criteria as a champion for under-represented groups

This role will work within the wider Undergraduate Admissions Team, which manages admissions to the University for over 40,000 applications through UCAS each year.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have existing experience working in admissions, student support or widening access in Higher Education. You will ideally:

  • Have a strong understanding of the barriers facing applicants from under-represented group and a passion for finding innovative solutions to remove them
  • Be experienced in managing competing priorities for a team across a busy portfolio of work
  • Make confident decisions in complex situations based on evidence, experience, expertise
  • Have a compassionate and empathetic approach to advising applicants and students dealing with difficult and sometimes disappointing challenges

Additional information

This is a permanent part time position working 29.20 hours per week but we can consider candidates offering between 21.90 and 29.20 hours per week.

The Undergraduate (UG) Admissions Team is part of our large and diverse Student Recruitment & Admissions department, which includes also student recruitment, outreach, widening access, learning partnership and postgraduate teams. You will join a large group of colleagues with diverse roles and interests, with opportunities to develop understanding and experience across the wider team.

About the role

Taking ownership of a portfolio of courses you will provide an outstanding experience for our applicants throughout their application process. Assessing UCAS applications you will make and apply offers or unsuccessful decisions for these applicants in a fair, consistent, and transparent way. You will also be checking decisions made by other members of the team and assessing the fee status of applicants.

Strong organisation and prioritisation skills are essential to working in our fast-paced environment. You will also occasionally be involved in representing the Admissions Team and the University as part of student recruitment activities, including occasional attendance at recruitment fairs.

About you

With a background in administration and customer service, you will enjoy working in a dynamic environment where a high level of accuracy is key. Ideally, you will have worked within higher education admissions, however, if you have other relevant experience please apply. You will also have:

  • a high standard of IT and administrative skills including the use of email and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc)
  • excellent attention to detail
  • an ability to stay calm and work efficiently and accurately under pressure
  • effective communication skills, to adapt to supporting applicants, parents/guardians,, academic staff, external organisations, or other members of the team
  • confidence using databases and reporting tools
  • the ability to work effectively in a team and independently, including managing your workload according to the team’s priorities

You will also have strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly when supporting enquiries from prospective undergraduate students and their representatives. 

Further information

This is a full-time, permanent position working 36.5 hours per week.

As with all members of our Undergraduate Admissions Team, a small amount of weekend working is required in June - October to support university open days and key results periods in August. The ability to take annual leave during August may also be limited.

About the role

We are looking to appoint a motivated individual to provide administrative and operational support for our busy International Student Recruitment office. This varied and interesting role will involve close liaison with professional service staff and academic colleagues across the University, external partners, as well as students. 

You will provide support on a range of work streams, in particular agent engagement, financial management and event logistics. You will also provide administrative support to the Head of the team. 

About you

You will

  • have experience of working in a busy office environment where excellent communication skills are essential
  • be an experienced user of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and will be willing to acquire further IT skills.

In addition, your strong organisational and administrative skills will allow you to manage multiple projects and work to tight deadlines.

Experience within the HE sector is desirable but not essential. However, an interest in the work of the International Student Recruitment team and a willingness to engage with our international students and partners is important to the role.
